Octopizzo: Before the fame I worked at a ‘mjengo’

OctopizzoRap star Octopizzo confessed that he worked at a “mjengo” and at a “garage” as a casual worker for years before he got the capital to start his music.

The Swag hit-maker was fielding questions from his fans on various online platforms courtesy of Coke Studio Africa.

He confessed, “I was an electrician and I did it for 3 yrs and that’s where i got my capital to start my music.”

The Ivo Ivo rapper added that life has not always been rosy for him.

“Before starting rap, my dream was to be a clearer and forwarder at the port but [I] never had the college fees…So I ended up doing casual jobs, from mjengo, promotions, to garage then luckily I fell in love with music,” Octopizzo said, “My music journey has been tough but worthwhile, mtafutae hachoki akichoka hua amepata.

I started from the bottom now I’m here, kufanya kazi kwa bidii, always staying hungry na kutake advices (sic) from everybody.”

He described himself as a “hip hop activist, entrepreneur and a go getter. Music wasn’t my dream it was my plan B and I thank God it worked out, and I don’t have a degree.”

On his projects the Kibera born star said, “I’ve worked with Rabbit on my track Bila Mic remix you can check it out on http://www.octopizzo.com”

Adding, “I’m working with 5 upcoming artists from Kakuma refugee camp . I support any hardworking person that knows what he wants and have a plan.”

Asked about his personal life, Octo responded, “I have been a dad since 2009. I love kids. I’ve been in the music industry for 4 years now naitwa Baba Tracy ama Baba Akinyi.”

And his mentors are “ 1. My mum 2. Kibera and 3. My daughters.

As a parting show, Octopizzo said, “My dream is never to be poor again, and I want others to follow my footsteps.”
