Education stakeholders have opposed the merger of the two largest teacher unions KNUT and KUPPET.
Elimu Yetu Coalition Executive Director Janet Ouko described the move being pushed by KNUT as a selfish one aimed at silencing other voices fighting for teachers rights.
Ouko says if it pushes through, the merger will only destabilize the education sector.
She says the unions in their separate entities, cater for different teachers needs and enables easy engagement with teachers from different levels of education.
Ouko is however of the idea that the government should take charge of the education sector in the country to avoid a power game between unions that will only serve to destabilize it.
