Matatu operators crippled transport across Nairobi Wednesday morning as they blocked key roads into the capital city to protest against a recent increase in parking fees.
They later moved to city hall to seek audience with Nairobi governor Dr Evans Kidero whom they accused of not honoring a gentleman’s agreement he had with the players on Monday during a meeting in his office.
However Kidero said he was willing to negotiate with the striking matatu operators but asked that they first remove vehicles blocking roads before they can hold a discussion on the way forward.
“We want to offer quality services to the residents of Nairobi, but the law must also be applied, I have not refused but one thing that you need to do before we talk is that you stop blocking roads” said Sonko.
Meanhwile Nairobi senator Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko is opposed to the increased parking fee calling on the operators to move to court further promising to offer them full support on this matter.
“I have pleaded with all the operators all the drivers all the matatu owners, they are going back to work on condition they will pay the old rates, I am en joining myself in the case there is no reason to punish the public like that” said Sonko.
