It was a blessing in disguise for Bodaboda operators who took advantage of the matatu strike in Nairobi Wednesday to make a kill as many commuters opted to use them as an alternative means of getting to their destination
Ibrahim Muturi a bodaboda operator within the CBD told Ghetto Radio News that the strike significantly boosted his business raking in unusual profits compared to a normal day.
“The strike has really helped us, we are benefiting, I am praying that it continues, you know normally we don’t earn much. I am so happy” said Muturi
He said they were forced to double fares following a high demand for their services adding that he hopes the strike goes on a little longer so he can achieve his dream of buying another motorbike.
“We are charging 200 shillings, 300, 400, 500, we have so many customers, if a customer decides not to pay we go to the other” said Muturi.
The Wednesday morning strike forced thousands of Nairobi residents to walk to work with owners of private vehicles finding it hard to access the CBD as the striking operators had blocked major roads into town.
