A commonly used HIV drug has been proven to cure cervical cancer in three months.
A study which was conducted at the Kenyatta National Hospital put 40 women who were diagnosed with early stage cervical cancer under treatment with the HIV drug lopinavir.
Speaking at a media briefing Dr. Innocent Maranga one of the researchers on the project stated that more than 90 per cent of the patients who were put on treatment were successfully treated.
Maranga says the antiviral drug was directly applied to the cervix of the women for every two weeks and a follow up done after two days.
He however urged women to go for screening as the drug only treats early stage cervical cancer.
