Journalists during last year’s Road to Anfield tournament

The standard Chartered Bank on Thursday held a draw for the second edition of the Standard Chartered Trophy Road to Anfield which is set to take place 15th and 16th on Saturday at the Kenya School of Monetary studies.

Thirty teams from the media and the banks staff have been invited to take part in the 5 aside tournament where  the winner will have an opportunity to represent the country at the finals to be held at Anfield, Liverpool in May 2014.

Speaking at the draw held at the Standard Bank Headquarters the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Bank Lamin Manjang said that the partnership between the Bank and Liverpool Fc which was signed in 2010 has seen the growth of the company grow in a big way and due to this success the partnership was extended until the end of the 2015 2016 season.

“According to this deal the bank is entitled to leverage on the sponsorship not only to promote the brand but also to give back to the community and reward their staff partners and clients,” said Liam.

“Liverpool football club has been a key partner in the companies Corporate Responsibility campaign as last year the company for the first time had on its shirt the logo of the charity event Seeing is believing campaign where the bank raises funds for the under privileged members of the society tackle avoidable blindness. Through this the campaign gained international exposure where by players signed shirts with this logo and the shirts were distributed in the banks headquarters countrywide and money was raised” Liam stated further.

The qualifying tournament will be played in a pool format, with the winners moving on to the knock-out phase.

Each team will have seven player’s five players on the pitch and two reserves. Each game will run for eight minutes; four minutes per half, with draws in the group stages.

In addition to playing ten other teams from across the world in the finals of the tournament at Anfield, the winners of the qualifying team will attend the EPL match pitting Liverpool against Queens Park Rangers (QPR), to be played on the last day of the season.
