An attempt to address the lofty wage bill that threatens to cripple the smooth running of government has received its latest casualty, this is after 70 % of staff working at the Kenya @ 50 secretariate were sent packing.
Sports Culture and The Arts Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario has stated that When the kenya at 50 secretariat started last year, there was a need for a slightly larger team due to the frequency and intensity of activities before the main celebrations on December 12 2013, but soon after focus shifted to legacy projects and activities spread over the year hence the steering committee agreed to only retain essential secretariate staff who shall implement the remaining part of the program.
This Mr. Wario said, meant that the team shall only comprise a ten member team from 21 and 30 members of the secretariate instead of the initial 70.
