After being disappointed by Floyd Mayweather’s failure to honor his match request, Amir Khan has confirmed that he will take to the ring again on 3rd may in Las Vegas.
Amir Khan will face American southpaw Luis Collazo in an undercard match, his first in his boxing career in the welterweight division that may be will be used to audition for a big money fight against Mayweather…
Khan who was disappointed that Maidana was selected to fight Mayweather instead of him said that he intends to use the fight to make a statement to prove that he belongs to the big stage
“A win on May 3 is what I need to prove that I truly am one of the best welterweights in the sport” he said, “Luis Collazo might be coming off of a big win, but I am in incredible shape and am ready for this challenge.”
But Collazo sees the fight as a chance to book his own date with Mayweather, who is being wooed by Collazo’s hometown arena in the Brooklyn section of New York to stage a bout there and he is determined to capitalize on it.
“Defeating Victor Ortiz in January was just the beginning,” Collazo said. “Facing and beating Amir Khan on the biggest stage in the sport is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I will take full advantage of this and put myself in the best position to face the winner of the main event.
“I hope Khan is ready because Brooklyn is coming to take him down.”
In another match, the undefeated Floyd Mayweather who has stopped 26 of his opponents in 45 fights will take on Maidana who has a record of 35-3 with 31 knockouts in a bid to defend his WBC welterweight and WBA “super” welterweight titles
Last month, Khan took to Twitter to vent his anger with Mayweather after he was overlooked for Maidana after being forced to wait for months for the American to make up his mind.
Khan has a record of 28-3, with 19 knockouts, and has not fought since 27 April last year. He skipped a planned bout with US southpaw Devon Alexander for the IBF title in anticipation of a big-money showdown with Mayweather.
It will be the longest layoff of his career, just over a year, before he climbs into the ring with Collazo, whose record stands at 35-5, including 18 knockouts and if he beats him, he will set the stage for a potential fight with Mayweather later this year.
