Tergat appointed to three Olympic commissions

The International Olympic Committee has appointed former World Track Champion Paul Tergat to serve in its three key commissions.

Announcing Tergat’s appointment on Tuesday, IOC president Thomas Bach said that Tergat will serve in the Entrourage, Press and International relations commissions

Tergat appointment is a boost for the committee having already creased its female membership by 23% with African representation increasing by 50% drawn from a broader geographical mapping.

The Entourage Commission is responsible for the relationship between athletes, coaches, managers, sponsors and all other stakeholders that support athlete, on the other hand Press Commission advices the IOC and Organizing Committees on the provision of the best possible working conditions for the world’s written and photographic press.

The relations commission facilitates and promotes the relationship between the Olympic Movement, particularly the IOC and NOCs, and governments and public authorities.

Accepting the appointment, the five-time world marathon champion was pleased to have been voted in last September by the committee in Argentina and looked forward to working whole-heartedly in the three commissions.

 “I am extremely honored to have been appointed into the three commissions by IOC President Thomas Bach. I am aware of the importance and the responsibilities that come with the position and as I said upon my election am ready to serve the Olympic family and promote the Olympic movement.”
