Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service (KNBTS) is planning to hold a major blood donation drive over this Easter festive to tackle the shortage of blood in the country.
Dubbed Easter Special Blood Drive “the exercise will be held between 12th to 23rd April countrywide and targets to collect 20,000 units of blood.
According to the service director Margaret Oduor, they heavily rely on schools and colleges for blood as up to 80% of donors are students.
She observes that so far, 6 regional blood transfusion centers and 11 satellite stations have been set up for the exercise with most pints collected to be used by accident victims and women during child birth.
