Uhuru, Raila mourn Kenneth Matiba

President Uhuru Kenyatta has eulogised founding father of multiparty democracy Kenneth Matiba as a true Kenyan patriot.

Through a televised speech from State House, Kenyatta said the late Matiba was not only a role model to many but a mentor to him.

“His loss will not be easily forgotten as he fought to make Kenya a better place. His role in the fight for multiparty democracy of forward ever backward never helped transform our country to what it is today. Those who knew him can attest that he was selfless leader.” Kenyatta said

Matiba died at a Karen hospital while undergoing treatment at the age of 85.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga said the country has lost one of the last living symbols of the pains Kenyans have had to bear in order to get where they are.

“It is hardly where we intended or ought to be, but certainly better than where we were at this time over 20 years ago, thanks to the sacrifices of Hon. Matiba and his team,” Odinga said.

woeful United hands a third Premier League title to Manchester City

Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions on Sunday as second-placed Manchester United suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat by bottom club West Bromwich Albion.

United had to at least draw to keep the title race mathematically alive but they were stunned at Old Trafford when Jay Rodriguez headed home after the break.

City manager Pep Guardiola might have missed one of the proudest moments of his career, however, after admitting on Saturday that he had a round of golf booked with his son and was not planning to watch United’s game.

He would have been as surprised as everyone else that the title, seemingly a foregone conclusion for months, was rubber-stamped in such strange circumstances.

A week after City surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to United and squander the chance to wrap up the title in perfect style against their arch-rivals, it was relegation-bound West Brom who served it up on a plate.

West Brom had lost eight of their previous nine games and last won on January 13.

“We’ve won the league for you, Man City, Man City,” West Brom’s fans chanted after the final whistle.

City, who rebounded from the United loss and a European exit at the hands of Liverpool by beating Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, have 87 points with five games left.

Guardiola, who failed to land a trophy in his first season in charge at The Etihad, opened his account by winning the League Cup in February against Arsenal.

But a first Premier League title, to go with the three La Liga titles he won as manager of Barcelona and the three Bundesliga titles he delivered for Bayern Munich, will be particularly satisfying.

He is the first Spanish manager to win the Premier League title — a prize he says is the hardest to claim in Europe.

Not only that but he did it with five games remaining, equalling the English top-flight record of United (1907-08 and 2000-01) and Everton (1984-85).

And it was achieved by playing a brand of football that has had the purists purring all season with City racking up 93 goals so far and on course to top the 100-point barrier.

“We did it in the way we wanted to do,” Guardiola said at Wembley on Saturday. “We have spent a lot of money to have these amazing players, to make that possible.

“These players deserve all my respect because they have been unbelievable all season.

“Winning the Premier League is going to be one of the best three seasons I have ever had as a player and as a manager.”

City skipper Vincent Kompany has now won three Premier League titles since joining 10 years ago.

Only former Chelsea skipper John Terry and Manchester United’s former captain Roy Keane can match that.

“Champions!!!!!! What a great feeling!! So happy to be able to share another trophy with our amazing fans,” the 32-year-old Belgian defender said on Twitter.

Caltex Bebabeba Promo Team meets The Daring David

The name David seems to be a reserve for those who carry and display their greatness at an early age.

David of Dagoretti corner in Nairobi is an astute welder, skillful with joining metals and forging metallic goods.

The irony and perhaps the surprising fact is that he is only 13 years. To crown the matter, he has not deserted his academic endeavors and schooling for the welding job.

The welding job is what he does during holidays. After learning for some time, he has mastered the art and does a perfect job to the awe of many.

David calls himself an accomplished mechanic, thanks to his father, Simon who has trained him on the job. When he started doing the real mechanic job Caltex played a significant role in building his customers’ trust.

As an upcoming mechanic in the Dagoretti area, clients would doubt his competence at first but he always does his best.

By using Delo and Havoline oil for diesel and petrol engines respectively, his customers keep coming back.

They insist on using Caltex products for their efficiency and pocket friendly prices.

Unlike his age mates who mostly spend their time watching television, he spends time learning and practicing at his work.

David’s father, Simon has over 20 years in his mechanic job and knows Caltex well.

He specializes in rollers, mixers and automotive spare parts. He says, Caltex engine oils ensure 100% engine performance and anyone who desires such guaranteed engine functionality needs to start using Caltex merchandise.

His job as a mechanic has become better with the use of this oil since it’s the oldest in the market and with the best quality of all time.

His clients say, even without the Caltex promo that graced the day, the benefits of the products are indisputable in the market.

His clients like using the lubricants for their engines because the oil preserves the motor pistons and other vehicle parts. He summarily states the benefits of Caltex as three-fold: assured quality, best affordable prices and guaranteed mileage.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati says he was kept in the dark concerning mass resignation of his commissioners.

In a short statement, Mr Chebukati says commissioners Connie Maina, Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat did not inform him of their walk-out.

An media invite sent to newsrooms to cover the event shows the level of secrecy with which the three commissioners held their intentions to resign.

As if they were afraid that their cover will be blown, the three commissioners did not even reveal to the media their identity in the media invite. They only identified themselves as “State Officers from a constitutional office”.

“State officers from a constitutional office will this morning at 10:00 am at the Stanley Hotel, Nairobi hold a press conference to make major announcements. Kindly provide coverage,” read part of the invite.

The commissioners also indicated their intentions of wanting their ‘major’ announcement covered live on TV stations.

When they finally announced their resignation, the commissioners accuse Chebukati of failing to lead the commission in difficult times.

They say that the leadership of Wafula Chebukati has turned the commission into a venue of misrepresentation of facts and mistrust among other issues.

The statement read by Margaret Mwachanya claimed that the IEBC has been influenced by external players making it non-independent.

Embattled Chebukati has since stated that he will not resign adding that the three commissioners’ resignation cannot stop the commission from transacting business on behalf of IEBC.

Meanwhile Cotu boss Francis Atwoli has called for the resignation  of Chebukati saying they he has failed in  discharging his duties.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio News   Atwoli says  the move of the three commissioners has revealed  rot in the commission.

Nkatha,Mwachanya, and Kurgat faulted their chairman Wafula Chebukati for not taking the commission in the correct path.

Equitel Paybill numbers are interoperable meaning that they can accept payments from all mobile money wallets.

In 2017 Equitel issued Ksh70 billion in mobile loans, nearly double the Ksh38.5 billion that was loaned on the platform a year earlier, representing an 82 per cent growth.

Equity Group, while releasing results for the year ended 2017, announced that Equitel and other digital banking platforms continued to increase contribution to non-funded income, cushioning the bank against a tough lending environment.
