He has been using drugs, to be precise heroine and cocaine for the last 14yrs since he was 17yrs and he openly acknowledges that his life has changed for the worse.
’’Nilikuwa genious but sasa nimerudi zero’’ says Biko a drug addict.
As he slowly walked into the studio, judging from his looks he did not look as intelligent as he spoke and the one thing I spotted about him is that he was smiling at anything and staring into space which prompted me to ask him what was wrong and if I should get him a cup of coffee.’’
Aki mum niletee” he responded innocently.
“Biko’’ as he calls himself is the guy i hosted on the Saturday 19th July 2014 ‘SareMadree’ radio show on Ghetto Radio between 10-11am.
Asked where he gets the drugs and syringes to inject himself, he said affirmatively that he would do anything to get money, including selling his mother’s phone, a habit that in turn made him a thief.
“Lazima mtu atalia” he says.
He claims he needs close to Ksh 1500 a day to get his dose or else he experiences body aches
“Naumwa na kila mahali hadi kuhara na kuumwa na tumbo’’ he says.
Its hard for him to comprehend things if he has not injected himslef the daily dose. ‘Ni kama unaongea na sikuskii’’ he tells me.
His friend who has accompanied him to studio says he works for an organization that is providing syringes to drug addicts to help curb the spread of contractual diseases like HIV Aids.
Painfully Biko tells me that there is no REHAB CENTER that can take him in, since he has no money despite his willingness to get help to abandon this drug life that he has gotten himself into.
The 1hr is down and its time for us to leave the studio but I had one question for him;
Where will you get money to buy the next dose?
’Dose ya kesho sina but Mungu nikiamka kila asubuhi Mungu hunionesha njia’’ he answers.
At the end of the show I only wish and hope that the Government would look into the Establishment of rehab centres in our Slum areas which have been greatly and still are affected by drugs.
“Shika namba ya mathe, anaitwa Mama Stevo umpigie ukitaka kuongea na mimi ’’
Biko finally tells me his last words as he leaves and urges me to do what I can to help him leave this life.
