Cabinet secretary for Health Dr. James Macharia has revealed that the country is currently operating with a shortage of over 40,000 nurses.

Macharia has however stated that his Ministry is working on a plan to ensure that 9,000 nurses are employed every year in order to fill the gap within a period of four years.

Speaking during the launch of the Beyond Zero campaign aimed at reducing maternal deaths and HIV infections to children Macharia stated that the ministry is also planning to establish mobile clinics across the country to help reduce maternal deaths.

He also revealed that the cabinet had resolved to spend over 34 billion shillings to equip all public hospitals across the country.
